HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES TO GYM MEMBERSHIPS

Want to get in shape, but not a fan of gym commitments? As people are starting to stray away from conventional workout practices, it’s becoming easier to work out and stay active without the hassle of a gym membership and contract. Here are some of our favourite ways to stay active throughout the year.

Fitness Apps

Mobile apps can be a great way to keep yourself moving, whether you’re at home, work, or on the go! There are many apps with different functions and features, depending on the type of activity you’re seeking. These are our top two apps for getting the most out of your excercise.

Keelo

This is an app designed for those looking for high intensity workouts. The app helps you plan a complete workout program that can be done either at home or at the gym. Keelo guides you through over 90 movements, most of which are body weight-only, though some involve using equipment. It also tracks your fitness, letting you know which areas you’ve exercised and how much you’ve burned. Keelo is exclusively available for iPhones and is even optimized for the Apple Watch.

ALL DAY

This is an all-around fitness app developed by Adidas. Rather than simply workouts, ALL DAY focuses on overall well-being, including both physical health and mental balance. In addition to tips for physical fitness activities, the app provides insights into nutrition, mindset, and sleep patterns. ALL DAY can help with improving personal nutrition and hydration, mental positivity and balance, and restful sleep habits. This is a truly well-rounded health app so you don’t neglect any parts of your physical or mental well-being. ALL DAY can be downloaded on both Apple and Android devices.

GO OUTSIDE

If the weather is accommodating, you can be just as active outdoors as in a gym. Walking, running, cycling, or doing various sports outside are all great ways to work cardio and muscular movement into your day. If you are new to outdoor training, don’t be afraid to take it slow and test the so-called waters. Not only are outdoor workouts super effective and healthy but kinder to the environment than using technologies and machines. Some of the above-mentioned apps can be a great way to motivate you to get moving outdoors.

JOIN A TEAM

Sometimes working out alone can feel boring or even scary. To stay active and still have time, you can try joining a community. Check out your local recreation centers, meetups, etc. for fitness classes, if you’re looking to practice yoga, pilates, or dance, with other people. Joining groups of exercisers, such as runners or cyclists, can also help you enjoy your workout by teaming up with like-minded people. If you’re interested in or skilled at a particular sport, you can also join a local team, whether it’s football, basketball, volleyball, etc.

DANCE

Dancing can also be a fun way to not only keep your body moving but release stress and have fun. Whether you’re new to dancing or an experienced dancer, you can find the right thing for you. You can join a dance workshop or class, a dance team, or even just dance around the house! Who says working out can’t be fun?!
