HOW TO WATERPROOF YOUR SHOES

Waterproofing is key to protect any shoes and particularly those made with more delicate materials like vegan suede and Pinatex™. We recommend that you protect your new shoes by spraying them with a water protector before wearing them for the first time, and regularly throughout their lives. Here are a couple of tricks to consider when it comes to waterproofing (and remember - always test the product on a small spot first!).

SELECT THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

There are lots of different waterproofing products out there - make sure to select the right type for the material of your shoes as the wrong product may damage them. Normally the product will clearly state whether it is suitable for suede-type materials or leather-type materials. Creams, oils and sprays are great for conditioning and waterproofing soft vegan leathers, and spray-on waterproofers are good for vegan suede. Vegan waterproof boots and shoes can be found at various retailers online. Most importantly, follow the instructions carefully to effectively clean your shoes!

MAKE SURE YOUR SHOES ARE CLEAN

Waterproof your shoes only when they are clean. If they are new, just take a clean cloth and give them a quick wipe to make sure there are no dust particles on the surface. If they are old, give them a proper clean first. If you have conditioned or waterproofed your shoes already, strip back that previous treatment before waterproofing them again to prevent any build-up. Drying non -leather shoes is essential before adding any product.

COVER THE TRIMS

Make sure to cover laces, hardware and other trims as the product may cause damage to these.
